Special HDD deal for Mininova users

Hi everyone,

Most people will probably experience similar problems with storage like us: you never have enough space. You just bought a new hard-drive and within a few weeks you filled it up again.

All this storage — even though it is getting cheaper — is still quite expensive. So we were immediately interested when the guys at Freecom contacted us with a cool offer for our users: 20% discount on the “Freecom Hard Drive XS” series. We think this is a great opportunity for you to get a good hard-drive for little money. The prices listed below are less than in any other place we could find and the drives are shipped worldwide.

The Freecom Hard Drive XS

The drive itself received very good reviews. It is housed in a special rubber casing which makes it both very quiet (no fan) and provides optimal grip. Since it’s the smallest type of external hard-drive (3.5″) and because of the anti-shock rubber, it’s perfect to carry around or to take to friends to exchange files.

In order to get the 20% off all you need to do is enter the following promo code on the Freecom checkout page:

  • Since when are 3.5″ HDDs “the smallest type of external hard-drive”? Let’s assume that true. I happen to have few 2.5″ drives that by the virtue of their existence contradict this statement.
Therefore it is false since it can be verified that smaller drives in fact exist. Proof by contradiction – awesome.

  • Well, I happened to find somewhere much cheaper:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001LDK4H4/ref=s9_simz_gw_s0_p23_t1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=0HC4176Q42P6YME4N57Q&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467198433&pf_rd_i=468294

Hitachi 1TB Hard Disk only going for £54.45, which is £25.00 ($42.00) cheaper. You can get an external enclosure for this drive cheap on fleabay.

I wonder how much mininova is making!

    Ray

  • Who is freecom?
I’d rather a reputable company like Western Digital or Hitachi storing my information. External enclosures can be bought from anywhere.

  • Hey, I too have a special offer for all Mininova users: the Brooklyn Bridge for only $119.99.

If you order now you’ll also receive all the cars on the said bridge.

    Hurry, limited stock!

  • gREAT JOKE CHEAP,SMALLEST…HA HA…ANY ONE WANTS…I LL GIVE A 2.5 INCH 1 TB HDD SEAGATE WITH 5 YEAR WARRANTY FOR $105.

  • Hey George,
I’ve only got $107.42, can I get just the bridge and maybe only the blue cars?

  • costly “cheap HDD for Mininova users”

  • id be surprised if anyone buys this. i like mininova and all but this external HD is NOT cheap, its not a deal. i can find ones for much cheaper. also 3.5″ is not the smallest.

  • I really love mini nova.
this is the best site for me,
thanks a lot form mininova team

  • It might be a good deal for people living in the same country/region as the Mininova admin does. However I can’t help but wonder if this drive would work without the USB 2.0 Turbo drivers for Windows only. Does it work on a linux box and without those drivers on windows ?

  • i think they meant that it is the smallest when it comes to 3.5 inch drives….not the smallest overall…

  • To all those who are making fun of this offer should at least have the courtesy of saying thanks to mininova for hosting this website and allowing us to download thousands dollars worth of stuff for free (of course we use our internet, I must say this before anyone comments about my statement). and when they say smallest 3.5″, that means its the smallest 3.5″ external hard drive. 2.5″ is obviously smaller than 3.5″. At least read before commenting. Even at the price mininova is selling the hard drives its still cheaper for someone like me in New Zealand to buy it from them even after currency conversion. And this way you can support them to keep doing what they are.

  • best site ive ever seen
    im a gr8 fan
    thx mininova

  • it makes me sad, nay angry, to see so many ungrateful people. really. what *is* your problem, you little bastards. it’s not like anyone forces you to buy something.
yeah yeah. 3.5″ is not the smallest type of HD. they made a mistake. you’ll receive your PhD shortly, geniuses.

you should be happy to get a nice offer & (maybe) the opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to the mininova people.

just for the record: at least in .de mininova’s 87€+5€ S&H is the best deal for this drive (1TB) – and straight from the manufacturer (freecom is a well known brand, btw.)

and: thanks to the mininova team for the sweet deal

  • you are the saddest prick on the net
saying the same boring thing you stupid little girl..

  • MININOVA ROCKS

  • Wow what’s with all the flaming…if you think this offer is crappy then go and use a different torrent site?

i wouldnt buy it but thats only cos i already got 1TB storage internal so…

  • Yes, there are hundreds of different hardrive offers online, and you will ALWAYS find something cheaper if you look long enough, so why whinge on and on>?
Reasonable spec drive at a competitive price, if you don’tlike it why sit and bitch at it? It can’t talk back.

Howmany people does it take to state the obvious”oh a 2.5 drive is smaller than a 3.5″ -Well done have a banana

    Gee.

  • already got a freecom external, but in aluminum and not rubber

    http://www.freecom.com/ecproduct_detail.asp?ID=4030

£164.99 for the 1.5 TB drive – will be taking a look at it soon :)

2.5 drives are smaller, but who cares ? want it for the laptop good, but not have a laptop

  • the amazon one quoted by ray is an internal drive that needs to be plugged in to a suitable connector, parent’s computer will not have such a connection, nor will the netbook that am looking to buy

please compare like with like :)

  • Well I would be able to say that this is a better price g if i had the rpm of the drive :P its its a higher rpm good deal if its like low rpm then its a bad price.. but who cares? Just be glad that mininova is offering this to you :)

  • Mininova is the god! Hail to the admins and follow their way! thank you Mininova for hosting it for free even God sometimes won’t give us for free…

  • I have 2 terabytes internal + a 250g and another 680g external so ner… hehehehe

Great Site, Average Deal…..cheers for the thought :P

  • Forget to mention, I wanna go halves in the bridge! Can I have the red cars?

  • Priceless.. yes mininova dudes, i see it all so clearly now. First you taunt me with oodles of illegal free downloads (which you don’t host.. umm just for the record) which no man in his right mind can resist and then just as i completely fill my HDD to the brim and desperately try to USB up an old 4GB i found down behind the sofa you slam me in the face with this offer.

Is this offer good? Bad? Like i give a shit, i just want it cause I really need to download everything from todays home page.

LONG LIVE MININOVA, LONG LIVE THE INTERNET.

  • Geez everywhere you read comments, there’s always someone complaining. Because of this, because of that, everyone who has the urge to fcking meddle into everything even other ppl’s business should be shot, and left to rot.. geez

  • I believe that a lot of people are making some classic mistakes here.

At the time that the offer was available, 2.5″ drives were not available in capacities larger than 500Gb. They are now available in these sizes.

As for having a high performance HDD connected trough a USB2 port, forget it! eSATA would serve you much better if you are looking for an external interface with more clout.

IMHO a case with protection from shock is a good idea. It can improve the life of your drive.

As for it being fan-less and quiet, knowing how hot the internal drives get in my desktop, I trust that these drives do not suffer with the same problem.

Now for that dirty word: Profit

So what if Mininova do get a small backhander. They host all these links to your beloved torrents and do not charge you for the privilege of accessing any of it. Someone needs to pay for the servers, bandwidth, electricity, …

So to the staff at Mininova: Thank you for all the work. Good luck with the court case and do bring us other offers which you believe may be popular with some grateful users.

  • There’s always some children that have to whine and moan.Is why so many people don’t bother uploading these days.Soon be moaning if mininova closed down(which wont happen, obviously)

  • Well considering I can get a similar designed product on other web sites in Brisbane, I think I will pass.

  • any update of trial guys
