In January 2008, a working group was installed with the goal to evaluate copyright laws. The working group consists of four members of the Dutch parliament. Two weeks ago, the working group published a report with the name Auteursrechten. Een rapport (’Copyright – a report’). The report includes several recommendations related to reforming copyright laws.
Unfortunately the report includes several factually incorrect assumptions related to Mininova, among which:
- That Mininova refuses to remove torrent files after a complaint has been filed
- That Mininova adds ‘reviews’ to torrent files uploaded by users
- That Mininova pro-actively removes torrents that refer to ‘incorrect content (e.g. porn)’
Besides these factual errors, the report also implies that all torrents on Mininova refer to copyrighted material, that Mininova hosts the content itself, and that Mininova profits from distributing these torrents.
We are very displeased with the fact that the working group didn’t contact us prior to releasing this report, or even took a look at mininova.org. If they had done so, they would’ve seen that we offer a copyright policy service for content owners for years and that we work closely with the content industry.
We demand that the spreading of false information related to Mininova will be stopped. In addition, we demand that the working group removes the name Mininova from the report and places a rectification on the website of the Dutch parliament and in several national newspapers. If these demands are not met, we’ll consider legal steps. To our surprise and nuisance the working group refuses to respond to the essence of the claim, being the factual errors about us and our services.

It’s extremly un-ethical that this so called “working group” made this type of claims without even a notification, I urge you to demand a rectification of this isues, I had use mininova, for quite sometime now, and i could say that they are a great sore for research and amount all the points that could use to exalt mininova is their extremely care for the monitoring of their content, there is no porn or any unsafe content which makes minova a very reliable site, my thoughs are with you MININOVA and have a long life

Mininova is the no.1 torrent website in the world.
Its near impossible for them to get these things wrong its all the opposite for thier statements.

It’s unlikely that a Parliamentary working group would ever respond to calls for a ‘rectification’. What occurred is that the industry – that is the record industry and so on – got in first, giving members of the working group a briefing that was possibly incorrect but ended up forming part of the final report.
It’s much easier to influence the process afterwards than wait for the final work to come out. But now, none of the group wants to be seen that they were wrong. Ask to meet with the members of the working group to offer the Mininova view, but pushing for a newspaper retraction or even a note on their website is probably not going to help get them onside. At the same time a letter to the newspaper from Mininova would also perhaps gets the editor’s attention.

I am glad that Mininova took such a storng stand on these remarks by the working group. Mininova is so unique because of its copyright removal policy and it’s wonderful program of Content Distribution. Without Mininova, content distributors like me would never be able to get the word out about their works.
I hope you continue legal actions against the people that have said such wrong things.
Only the first 2 point are incorrect and insignificant, whats more important is that everything else they say is the truth. You guys do make money by making content available and you guys do actively remove wrong/fake content.
You guys should have never given in to BREIN and the MPAA/RIAA.

Hmmmm, I don’t think this is a smart move. The statements made by mininova are just dumb;
# 1, torrent removal, yeah right, the sims 3 is still there ( upload 2-july).removening 1 torrent doesn’t make your the good guy even removing all of them isn’t good enough.The content filter doesn’t work at all, every thing is still availible at mininova, one way or another.
# 2, mininova doesn’t make the comment but does allow it to happen and even moderates them. Also admins makes comments about torrents and content.
# 3, the porn thingy, well i did some searching and THERE’S NO PORN AT ALL, unless you think that a model in bikini is porn.
I’ve red the report briefly and I couldn’t find ANY reverence to mininova at all. Could mininova be so kind to show us where those statement were made ???

I would die without you. I dearly hope that one day, our politicians would cease to obey ridiculous lobbies and listen to the customers (so should the latter). If the content were to be provided direcly by the “producers”, regardless of where you leave on the planet and which ridiculous law applies in your country to determine whether you can or cannot see a show, movie etc… we would not have such problems.

I have lost count of the many Gigabytes of data I have downloaded for FREE from Mininova.
And now everyone seems to be complaining that the free ride is over.
It isn’t over.
I continue to download media from Mininova, I now have to go to other sites because contant is removed quicker now; but, so what?
For many years the staff at Mininova have provided an invaluable service that continues to this day.
I thank you guys profusely and hope that the next site that follows is even better.

Hmmm well I think the posts made after mine, the second was of course not mine, proves that no one has anything to add to this conversation. I do not see why mininova allow comments on these information threads because basically EVERY post after mine had the word ‘cunt’ in it, afew withstanding. If these are the majority of people using sites like these I do not see why the owners go to court to keep the site alive. Maby if the content was filtered it would keep the social degenerates away from conversations like this which would I believe allow those who accually have something constructive or at least in a small bit human to have their say.
There is sure to be comments after mine that will mock me or call me obscene things but I think that by doing so they are more lowering the decent peoples opinion of them and probably lowering their I.Q as well.
As for Mininova I support any decision you make as far as filtering goes as you do what you must for the good of yourselves and the site. I also hope that this matter gets sortes as soon as possible.
Oh and I was in no way saying that all who download illegal programs and software are ’social degenerates’ just that alot of the people who were saying things like ‘cunt’ and ‘dick’ were saying so because of the fact that the filtering system is going to be put in place which would obviously mean that if it was then they would have no reason to come to these discussions. How is “That Mininova pro-actively removes torrents that refer to ‘incorrect content (e.g. porn)’” factually incorrect? Mininova does remove torrents for porn content. If you are hung up on the ‘pro-actively’ part, I think you are stretching the case in order to find more to complain about in the report.
And why be bothered about their report anyway? All of the recent court cases and reports such as these are the result of pressure from industry groups which have profits as their motivation, so predefined results should not be surprising even if they are based on lies. Unless you are being prosecuted based on the content of a report such as this, it’s a better idea to just ignore it. Your supporters know where things are at, and your critics (who side with or, in some cases, are paid by the industry groups) aren’t going to believe you anyway, so you’re just grasping at the wind.
Also, perhaps you should consider that the working group knows these statements are false and put them in the report anyway in order to bait you. By raising hell over it, you simply shine the spotlight on yourselves and help spread their lies to people who would never have heard them if not for your loud denials. This is an old political trick and is used by conservatives in America all the time (especially by the FOX News network). The industry groups love the attention and helps them to link the term “file sharing” with words like porn (and specifically child porn – a nasty tactic they have been using more and more lately).
Thumping your chest and loudly proclaiming your innocence is just not a good idea right now – look where it got TPB.

They should have say in their report : Well, Torrents sucks and from what we heard Mininova is a torrent site so they suck too.. which is not the case actually.
Anyway most of those working groups are doing illegal actions in order to make legal issues against users and/or websites.
Eg : by their own wills, distributing (seeding) illegal contents ( such as games or movies ) , making people download them and then say : You see, this site and users download/upload this content… // but they will never say this in their report.
I for one have seen where 2 or 3 movies I have uploaed were removed in a few days from my list of uploads, yet the same movies uploaded by others are still there, that is what my beef is about. I don’t care about copyrights or not. If I can’t have my Finding Nemo Full Screen rip on there or my Bedtime Stories On there, then they should all every single one be removed.

Mininova, what did you expect from a group predominantly populated by politicians? – Honesty, decency, fairness, balance, integrity? – No fucking chance!
Everyone in that working group should resign and the media should clearly label these politicians as incapable of providing service to the public on the basis that their collusion leads to the dissemination of misinformation. They are essentially deceptive and untrustworthy.
A slight mistake is understandable but the volume of errors and blatancy of each error is enough to clearly see they have intentionally misrepresented Mininova.

To the best of my knowledge, all moderators and most admins are not employed by mininova, and thus your statement is incorrect. Wikipedia lists mininova’s employee count as 5, meaning that only 5 people can speak or act for mininova.
While I acknowledge that wikipedia isn’t the most accurate source in the world, it has had the employee count listed as 5 for the past 6 months.

I do think the “working with the industry” seems a bit specious, though, given all the movies I see uploaded every week.
