Here at Mininova we are working continuously on ways to improve our platform. One example is our content distribution service, where we offer producers and artists a way to expose and share their work with BitTorrent users.
Today, we decided to extend our platform and run a trial with content recognition. This basically means that likely infringing video files referred to by torrents are checked by a third party content recognition system. If the system finds that the file corresponds to unauthorized content, we remove and block the torrent that refers to this file on Mininova.
We hope that this system will make it easier for copyright owners to remove torrents that refer to infringing content from Mininova, while still offering the best platform to our users.

Good riddance. There is simply no alternative to The Pirate Bay. If the TPB crew ever succumbs to the law, the internet will be left without a reliable public tracker completely.

Respected such a site before but now!!!
Fear of prosecution is a great thing, the fall out from the Pirate Bay trial will be felt and heard around the net for years. Big brother will ultimately win unfortunately. Piss and moan as we must, we will never beat big money and big business. The digital revolution and the internet were to ‘bring the world together’ what they left out was that it was to bring the world together in shackles and chains or as total slaves.
I know everybody’s is thinking to left Mininova.. but users, what you expected?? They are getting a lawsuit, so they’re trying to ‘help’ the MPAA, and all the organizations behind that, but it will take some time, so dont blame the admins, its not their fault. Or all you people want the site closed because a lawsuit.. Mininova is trying to cooperate so give them some time!
If you read the carefully worded post, you’ll notice that with any luck hardly anything will change. I salute you, Mininova… you guys rock. And even if I misunderstood, kudos guys, for such a tremendous effort that we all enjoyed. Best of luck!
Don’t get your panties in an uproar. This is called CYA (Cover your ass). If anything does happen, they can say they have been testing ways to prevent piracy, adhere to copyright and all that bullshit. They just haven’t had a chance to turn it on because they working out bugs, blah blah
Youtube and Google vids does the same thing. They just don’t enforce it.
I think its great, they should run the stuff thru a filter, maybe kill a bunch of password/login required stuff while at it.

Well…what can I say, I dont blame you for CYA..but your also giving in, The Pirate Bay is standing up and fighting it. Plus Torrent sites arent really to blame for this, all they do it give you a link..maybe 1000 at a time, but its to where it is, never said they were hosting the files.
All i can say is, if the “testing” goes good on your end then good bye mininova! It was fun while it lasted.

This is exactly why I continue to choose the pirate bay over everyone else, they’re the only ones that stand to fight this bullshit, because some of us actually download the shit to try out the full game before we go buy it.

Offering torrents is NOT illegal, but it’s hard/expensive/risky to defend yourselves from this simple fact! So I understand your decision.

I believe we will take list of the ip-addresses for checking servers. So we must ban it to prevent they from downloading =)

It is sad but from legally view i can understand this action but why not try to make it a share site whit payment (subscribtion) so you pay an X(not too much pa 10 euro) amount per month and you can download so many GB’s pay more download more make arangements whit the owners of the rights and make it possible to give them a change to get some money for there work instead of nothing because ilegal downen is and will always be there on the net, let the owners of the rights see that this a better way against the ilegal downen we as a family are willing to pay for downen wich means that it is from than on legal
let me tell you how the pigs in the music industry got fat. i am a music lover for as long as i can remember. as a kid i used to walk home from school to save my bus fare just so that i could buy music. and buying music was not cheap those days. i still have a collection of nearly 500 cassette tapes that i’ve bought by saving transportation costs and my pocket money. it’s an invaluable sovenier of my childhood and yet a stark reminder of how the thugs in the music industry have been feeding on the blood of innocent lovers of music.
