Torrent removal trial

Hi all,

Here at Mininova we are working continuously on ways to improve our platform. One example is our content distribution service, where we offer producers and artists a way to expose and share their work with BitTorrent users.

Today, we decided to extend our platform and run a trial with content recognition. This basically means that likely infringing video files referred to by torrents are checked by a third party content recognition system. If the system finds that the file corresponds to unauthorized content, we remove and block the torrent that refers to this file on Mininova.

We hope that this system will make it easier for copyright owners to remove torrents that refer to infringing content from Mininova, while still offering the best platform to our users.

Cheers!

The Mininova staff

  • All this is bullshit. Many of the torrents that have been filtered have been dodgy to say the least and the moderators quite reaonably removed them.
By the way a lot of chatter about axxo and fxg where have they gone?

  • looks like the mininova phase will be over soon

  • The creative will be called on again and we will continue to share everything from idea’s to film. The Free-Will is stronger than a million DR’s foundations.
Thank you Mininova staff for being there for so long and working many long hours. You are hero’s to millions!

  • without this site my children would not have seen many films as i cant afford to take them to the cinema or ‘buy’ the films on sky or dvd

  • Anonymous I agree with you. While other mininova users enjoy more good quality torrents

  • what ever happened to “aXXo”?

  • membo the indian P.E.N.I.S

  • Now where is axxo gone as well as the rest of the scene?

  • Also another on the list of “Where are they now?”is FLAWLESS….man his BRRips were the shizznitt.

  • Mininova will never die, there will be another Nova successor, there always is ;) Supernova to mininova ;)

Thank you so much MN, you’ve done us all proud.

Peace out from a long time torrenter.

  • Man this is a joke!! I posted on the trial log and I guess I should have come here first. I don’t believe this crap! Look like I stated before, when it leaves the artists hands and gets to the consumer, it’s free reign. How in the flip can they dictate what the hell I do with it. Besides we are not selling it to anyone!! It is ours to use. Oh ya to the slobs getting filthy freakin rich off us middle class types, YOU’RE WELCOME! YOu pointless, mindless, inept pinheads…if you don’t what people to have it, well, don’t sing it, don’t record it, don’t write it, don’t put it on film. Besides I still buy the friggin’ CD’s DVD’s books, comics, magazines or whatever. And oh here’s a concept, “Stop making it so expensive you selfish self rightous poges!” Now maybe if they read this too fellas they will get the idea and stay the f…k off our backs and go play with one another in their big freakin houses with all their illegal housekeepers! Nuff said! Good Luck guys hope to see you ’round the bend.

  • My new hero is Wonderbug!

  • Wonderbug, when you purchase say a cd of an artist, it is to be used for personal use. You are allowed to make backup copies for yourself, but not for your friends. Piracy could be blamed for a lot of the current problems in our economy when you consider the industries that used to provide many high paying jobs, that cannot because the money is no longer there. The box office for movies may be showing $100 million movies, but in reality, less people go to the movies, consider inflation when discussing that. TV networks are struggling because advertisers pay them to air their ads during shows with high viewership. If people are not watching those ads, the networks will lose money because who will want to air their ads on their low rated network?

How many people have lost their jobs since Napster and now? I would be interested in that, and how many jobs were created in these industries since then. If anything, these industries should be doing even stronger, and they should have created maybe millions of new jobs, not slashing many jobs.

  • with or without piracy good movies earns millions of bucks and deserves it, its contrary on the opposite. consumers have the right to choose and not to be spoonfeed by good covers fooling them that there films sucks, just to earn such penny. piracy will live as it started. the more security tightens the more exciting for a coder to surpass. and a challenge for a hacker to crack.

  • may the torrent free world cont…………………………….

  • This is the real secret. The people of Mininova get the videos first hand thru their pirates. Then they create people like aXXo, FxG, FxM, etc. They are also paid to get the torrents out of their site. People are not dumb you morons. If you block content, they will go to another site.

  • we must live to share , share and you shall live ,

  • “Joe Nicols” are you listening what you’re saying ? “when you purchase a cd of an artist, it is to be used for personal use…” ? “…personal use” ?
But if i’m buying some bread, it’s for personal use, right ? But that doesn’t mean that i can’t share it with someone else, even if i’m not the one who made it !
If i’m buying some chocolate, becomes mine, right, cause i’m paying for it, right ? But that doesn’t mean that i can’t give a piece of it to another person ! You got the idea ?
If i’m buying something, anything, becomes mine, and I have the right to do whatever I want with it.
If they don’t like the problem of piracy, they should low down a little the price of their product.
You know, in my country (Italy), there was a DVD (cartoon film) with the PROMOTIONAL price of 26,90€ (about 30$). How can i buy this DVD for my children ? I rather download from the Web.
But if the DVD cost 5 € ? I buy, of course ? Got the idea this time ?
    For example :
They make 10 millions DVD copies for a movie at the price of 25$. They manage to sell, let’s say about 2 millions. So, 2millx25$=50millions$. OK ?
What if the price is 10$, instead of 25$ ? Most surely they will sell more then 7-8 millions copies, might be able sell all the copies. So, 10millx10=100millions$.
    OK ?

  • I’m with “cirip2006″!!!!!
    Thx,
    NSK

  • crip2006, do you own a business? Do you have employees who expect to be paid for their work? You buy a loaf of bread, you will eat, and then naturally you go back and buy more, the key term is buy. If nobody is buying, which the economy is now based on, how are jobs created?

Maybe everything should be free, but then comes the problem of why should anyone create anything if crip2006 next door will just use it without doing any work for it? Why should I do anything if others will just take it? When you put a price tag on it, then people will work to purchase that item and then I will be rewarded for it. Do you understand yet? It is like your job at Wal-Mart, you expect to stock the shelves, then customers come in to buy the products, then at the end of the week you are rewarded with a check for your services. If people just come in and take without paying, why should you stock the shelves? You will not be rewarded for your time and effort.

  • Theres always another website...

Even if Mininova instals the filter, there are tons of more websites just like this one. Here are couple of them.
    -piratebay.org
    -isohunt.com
    -torrentz.com
    -demonoid.com (Private)

This filter will not stop us from downloading, ya know?

  • Just cut the C.R.A.P., would you “Joe N.” You sound like you never download copyrighted stuff. Like H.E.L.L. you don’t. Otherwise why are you here, what are you doing on mininova’s blog ?
And seems like you got a piece of bread instead of your brain, cause you didn’t understand nothing from all i said. I wasn’t talking about taking all for free. I bet that you don’t have at least 50% from all the original stuff i bought. For example, i have all 10 seasons of Stargate SG1 and the DVD pilot “Stargate”, over 50 DVD’s with various films of all kind, and other serial movies i like. All of this bought with reasonable price.
I was talking about lower costs that always bring more profit. I put even an example, but you’re too blind to see it, or you think you’re too intelligent for us, ordinary people.
I was talking about high price for low quality…
By the way, about that cartoon (30$). I saw it (downloaded from Internet), my son too. Got to tell you that it was…maybe the worse cartoon i ever seen. My son said the same.

  • And I was talking about my rights, when i have something that belongs to me, that i can do whatever i like with it, even if we talking about a CD, or a DVD…

  • cirip2006 your pathetic attempt at justifying illegial downloading legally copyrighted material is F’ing hilarious! Joe is absolutely right in his assessment of how the “system” works.

  • And you don’t “own” the information that’s(music, movie) on the CD or DVD jackass . If you think you do then go open a store and burn copies of all the “10 seasons of Stargate SG1 and the DVD pilot “Stargate”, over 50 DVD’s ” and sell them for double what the blank cd,dvd costs . you’ll sell alot for the 30 mins you’ll be open before the police arrest you for selling stolen property. am I wrong? And I get your argument about the overpriced dvds out there, but that’s no defense in a legal forum to steal it. If you dont want to pay…then don’t, and just maybe if they didn’t have to fight for every dollar they lose to copyright infringement then they just might lower the cost

  • crip2006, I buy a lot of music, movies, tv shows, but I do download things, just not at extreme levels, but I do buy them. Usually, I buy things not released yet, but I ALWAYS end up purchasing them.

  • Joe Nicols you are Jesus Christ’s Reincarnation. They should make a movie on you. I will be the first to seed at superspeed.

The first thing they should do is lower the price. Whatever reason they give, they must lower it.

At the end, they will not lower it and people will not stop downloading it. Stop preaching.

The moment they lower the price, people automatically will be directed towards it.

  • To Joe Nicols,
if u had any clue of how business works then u would understand what crip2006 was talking about. Furthermore, the artists who come up with the original ideas for movies or songs get paid next to nothing compared to all the greedy, fat, corporate f***s and their filthy rat lawyers. They’re loosing millions…. lol. They made billions on the backs of decent hard working people, paid them nothing and then f***d them in the courts, and they still want more and more and more. So give it a rest with all ur corporate propaganda.

THE SCALES HAVE SHIFTED – POWER TO THE PEOPLE

  • FEAR NOONE, I think you just described every single job in the world. You have a board of directors, or top level managers, that make decisions, and then you have lower level workers who perform the duties to make the company money.

Nobody forced any artist to SIGN A CONTRACT GIVING UP THEIR RIGHTS TO THEIR WORK. Those people are just like any normal working person. Do you have a job, I doubt it from the way you talk, welfare idiot.

You are defending artists that could care less about you. Nobody every complained until file sharing networks came out, and they could get the stuff for free. Companies could lower the price of products, but it would not matter. Who would pay for something they could get for free?

You have no idea how a business works.

  • crips2006
    I’m with you on this
joe stop twittering on this blog and get out, we all share here. looks like your the only one that dosen’t.
HELLO CD;s cost nothing to make
and do you think those ppl should be payed all that”I don’t think so”

HOW DO YOU BUY THINGS THAT ARE NOT OUT YET????
WAIT I GOT AN IDEA “DOWNLOAD THEM”

  • logan, I meant to say I download things not out yet, then purchase them when they are available.

If everything is shared, and we are not buying anything, how do we expect to create jobs, and get the economy out of the hole we are in? Oh wait, we give everyone money to save, and not buy anything.

You know the laws, and if you break them, it is your own fault if you get caught and sued. Take it like a man and pay the fine.

Mininova will probably go down, and someone else will take its place. But, then that place will go down, and we will keep moving on to new sites, until the government steps up and protects copyright holders.

  • logan, you also sound like a whiner. “Oh, this person makes more money than me, it is ok if I take from them.” I have an idea, go out, create a label, and sign artists. Now, release their material, and see how easy it is.

What is with people and dissing those who make more money than they do? Why is class warfare a big topic all of a sudden? Oh no, this person makes millions while I live on welfare. It isn’t fair that my GED doesn’t allow me to earn $100k a year.

Maybe you should open your home to everyone, and let them take whatever they want.

  • I’ve been working since I was 14 years old. If u are so against torrent downloading GET OFF THIS PAGE. Go to the MPAA page and tell them ur bulls***t ideas. How much do they pay u an hour to through all this trouble trying to get people to stop downloading torrents. Go tell ur bosses that it doesn’t work.

  • No Fear, living off of welfare is not working, it is taking from those who do work.

Oh wait, you prefer taking from people who work to make products for you because you can be lazy and not have to work. No wonder why the future generations are screwed. You are going to be a great parent one day, “It is ok little Jack, you don’t need to work, be like me and mommy and just take from everyone else.” Time to remove the welfare system, sorry No Fear, you will have to find a job now, and force people to work and earn their keep. You are caught stealing, lets go back to the old days, cut off a hand.

No Fear? How about No Excuses.

  • i agree that excessive downloading should be stopped but that wont happen until prices are lowered on dvds,cds,etc.., those artists that sign those crappy contracts giving up their songs,books,scripts,etc.. get paid and then probably get a small percentage of profits from sales, either way they get paid and sharing torrents on the internet ensures worldwide promotion, the only people who lose are the greedy corporate dogs who fuck everyone over then donate 0.0000000000000000000001% of their income and think theyre good people

  • think of a site and i bet that its promoting something or someone its a good thing but for certain people it isnt, the only way to stop downloading completely is to shut down all internet access and thats never gonna happen

  • by the way joe nicols what do you think will happen when your too old to work no savings to fall back on because you spent your life and money giving your kids a better a childhood than you did, i bet you wouldnt be complaining about welfare then

  • Anonymous, I have a 401k plan, investments in the stock market with some stocks that have been doing very well, even in these rough times. I have investments in many different businesses. While at the same time, I am able to spend money on things I want. Why is it that so many of our grandparents, some parents too, are able to retire, and even have many things?

    Don’t be idiots.

  • Also, if I can’t afford something, I don’t buy it. Why did the economy get as bad as it did? Because we let people buy things they should never have purchased, probably like most people on here with their big screen tvs, big houses, expensive internet service, and so on. Live within your means, and enjoy the basics. The future generations are going to have a lot of fun when they find they no longer have jobs because their parents were to busy destroying the jobs they could have had. Giving handouts won’t do anything for the economy. Drop the handouts, force people to go back to work.

  • The only way around all this crap, falls under the donation act. Basically something can be donated for and not made profit from nor and sales gained from such service. If one person owns it and lends it to his mate……oh wait maybe we should pay royalties everytime someone accidently hears my tv or the music on my ipod….oh duhhhhhh

  • How about spending a few billion on the bigger problems of the world….its not too often you see corporate companies helping those in 3rd world countries…Im sure they could buy hundreds of bakeries…but they wont give a crumb of their bread to those dying.

who are the real terrorist, those destroying the social enviroment, striking fear everywhere, killing the innoncents or is it the world who want to share the love of their great interests. sharing a song with a friend to hear….watching a dvd when the room is full of family and friends…does each person have to pay the producers and creators before they press play?

  • Joe Nicols: the problem here is that you’re comparing downloading a non-tangible asset to the business of selling tangible media (dvds, cds, etc.) The grey line lies in that no supply was lost to the theft. So while walking into a store and stealing a washing machine leaves the store without a washing machine that they’ve already payed for, downloading music doesn’t cost anyone anything in real dollar value. It’s all _potential_ loss. And this _potential_ loss is gravely exaggerated depending who you talk too. For example, talk to an avid download and he will tell you 90% of hte people downloading wouldn’t have gone to the theater anyways. Talk to the exec, and he will tell you he just lost 90% of his potential sales.

In the end I tend to believe piracy is rampant because it’s easy. And therein lies the solution. Make it easy and reasonably priced to download music and people will do it. There is absolutely no reason to charge 20 dollars an album when it’s online, infinitely reproducible, and has a market audience available globally.

  • EPIC FAIL!
Please mininova, don’t bend over for the idioitic corporations!

  • Hey Joe, are you a professional idiot or just an aspiring amateur? You seem to think that when you buy a cd, that you’re somehow giving back to the artist who actually produced it.. You’re not. You’re putting money into the pockets of the people who are gonna sue your ass if they find out you download anything at all, no matter how little you do of it, or whether or not the product is out in the marketplace yet.

Also, for many of us, downloading albums and/ or video is an education that I don’t think we should be deprived of just because we can’t afford to spend money on it. I download alot of nature shows and science and technology dvds. You’re saying I shouldn’t be allowed access to these pieces of information simply because I don’t have a 401 k plan and some douchey stock portfolio. You sir, are as close to the slick rebirth of satan as I’ve seen lately. Eat a dick.

  • This is an open memo to Joe and Cripps and everyone else, I would just like to remind all of you that, allthough both of these people and some others here will tell you that they know how “Tha Bidness” works, I am here to tell you…
    THE WORLD ECONOMY IS EFFED…
EVEN ECONOMISTS AND BUSINESS PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW HOW “THA BIDNESS” WORKS…
And here is the secret people: Nobody knows how it all works! Everyone knows their little piece and that’s it. It’s like an ant colony! When trying to grasp something as massive as the world money markets, the human brain can only take a distilled computer assesment and try to make sense of it all… Do you really think anyone actually knows what they are doing at the top these days???
Anyways just my 2 cents… though I did read about a half a page of flaming, and must say that Joe is wrong with most things he is saying, though he makes some valid points.

(The artists don’t care about the people buying the music etc??? So, the record company boss cares more than the artist who crafted the work for the people to enjoy in the first place?????)

Anyways, Joe, you are INCREDIBLY mixed up, Cripps, power to ya bro, I agree with you about 80%, of course I myself am the first to admit that I could be wrong!

    Peace my bruvas!
    BOOYAKACHA!

  • both of ya are BOTH stealing same as everyother joe blow on this site! just b/c Mr. 401k ( which won’t be worth a GD in a few years ) only steals what he needs to get his fix doesn’t mean he is any better nor any worse than Mr. Loaf of bread ( which he will cont. to buy untill he dies unlike a single dvd or cd) you 2 sould listen sorry read what ya saying. pirating stuff and economy HA HA HA……my sides hurt!!!

  • Some people seem to live under the assumption that when you purchase a CD, the artist gets most of it. Truth is most bands make money from live gigs and performances, not CD sales. Its the middlemen(the record labels) who make the cash off CD and DVD sales. It is them who moan about how much money they’re losing(much like they did when vinyl got replaced with CD and more recently when mp3 came about). I know people who play in up-and-coming bands who are completing business degrees coz they realize how badly these middlemen will screw them over with dodgy contracts and the like. What talent exactly does Simon Cowell have? Cant sing, isnt an artist, cant perform, all he is is a middleman for a lot of artists who cons them and the world. In other spheres(such as sport) agent ownership is being slowly eradicated but the music industry wants to stay in the past coz the big labels fear they’ll loose a learjet(which they actually dont) if someone gets the next beyonce album off mininova.
