Hi there,
A quick update about a new and cool feature we just implemented: personal bookmarks! From now on, logged-in users can bookmark their favorite torrents.

After clicking the “Add to bookmarks” button, a torrent will be added to the list of bookmarked torrents available at “My bookmarks“. Bookmarking is convenient if you want to save a torrent so you can quickly find it back.
Another useful (and more powerful) scenario is remote downloading.
How does it work? In most BitTorrent clients (for example: uTorrent) you are able to poll an RSS feed. Go to the “My bookmarks” page we just described, and copy your “personal feed” URL. In uTorrent, click the “RSS Downloader” button and add the feed URL from your clipboard.

Now, go to “Favorites”, add a new filter (the name doesn’t matter) and enter “*” as “Filter” and choose a download folder at “Save in”. You’re done, click “Close” to make

Now, if you’re at work and see the latest album of your favorite featured artist, just hit the “Add to bookmarks” button. The torrent is added to your bookmarks and personal feed, and within a few minutes your BitTorrent client at home will refresh the feed and notice the new torrent. Your client will then start downloading the torrent in the background, so when you come home you can listen to the album right away. No need for WebUI’s, port forwarding, and exposing local computers in your home network.
Do you like this feature? Or would you like to see any changes? Please let us know in the comments. We might not answer all comments, but we surely read them!
Thanks!
It seems nice but for me it’s useless. Maybe I’m getting old but what is the point of remote downloading, starting a download from my workplace ? My boss is going to break my leggs if I try that.My work PC is checked for non-work related stuff just like this.
Don’t you need to have a running PC when you start a remote download or can you also turn your system on?? Doubtfull IMO.
Anyway, It’s nice to see you’ll improving the site and/or the features but I think I’ll let this one go.
Cheers.
-The Queef-
this feature is amazing! I always find torrents on mininova at work or at school and want to save them or even better put them to download, this is perfect! cant wait to try it out. great work mininova team, keep up the improvements to already the best torrent site on the net
The Queef: you are not getting it, you would only go to the mininova site at work, all downloading/rss feed reading will be done by your home machine, all you do at work is log in @ mininova
I like the new features i just noticed them right now. Keep up the good work i love Mininova search Ivan_PSP for my torrents. Mininova 4 LiFe…
Absolutely great, it couldn’t be any easier.
And yes, it’s quite useful for those of us who work away (quite away) from home, and you have your time to check your own e-mail and stuff, and you just want to have your favourite series from the night before downloaded when you come home (and, usually, they are not ready yet when you wake up, let’s say, here in Europe).
Maybe not a feature to use on a regular basis or whatever, but it’s really useful for those times.
Thank you team!
I’ve been doing the remote thing for a while using a program on my mac, it’s really great, I’d give it a shot if I were you queef

Anyway, it’s great that you’re improving the site, I’m gonna pass on using the remote download cause I already have mine set up, but I think it’s really great and I’m pretty sure I’m gonna be using the new features you add in the future. Congratulations on the new feature and thanks for improving an already great site
Any chance we can get an “ajaxy bookmark icon” from the search results page to add to bookmarks?
It would be a little time saver.
Also, sorting on the bookmark page would be nice:

i really liked your new fearure.
it is very helpful for me i think, beacuse i was usualy
saving the torrent file, now i won’t need it.
thank you very much.
mininova leading the way in new innovations, congratulations on a brilliant new function!
giving the visitor on mininova the most immediate and most useful utilities we have become accustomed to on our desktops
great idea, more power to you dudes, thank you for all the sharing

Seems a silly question, but…
What if I just want to bookmark it, for later reference, (check to see if a password has been posted etc), and not download it?
Seems that two buttons are in order. “Add to Bookmarks” and “Add to RSS/Auto Download”.
(My Firefox button-bar is crammed with temporary links already, site-served bookmarks would be a lot simpler (from a “user” organization perspective, especially if BM’d from a work machine, as it leaves no local bookmark trail on the ’surfing’ machine)).
(Gawd, I hope that came out right :))
Just wondering for clarification then…as Queef pointed out, does my computer at home need to be on for this to happen? It shouldn’t have to be, right, since the torrent would just show up on the RSS feed.
Wonderful. this will be very useful since there’s no page in mininova like my_torrents
Nice idea guys. Will post about it on the blog
I think I found a little bug in this feature. I tried to bookmark a torrent which was removed (didn’t know about that because I left the site opened in another tab and was doing other things:) And now, on “my bookmark” screen I have a bookmark dated 01 Jul 07 without name and category. But the worst thing is that it can’t be removed with the red X button.
@andrew:
This has been fixed, thanks for reporting!
Thanks for fixing this so quick!
Glad I could help!
This is an amazing feature, this way I can avoid all the time of mailing the torrents to myself and downloading them on my home PC. Hope the feature works as explained
Thanks to the entire team for having put such a feature together.
thats really awesome stuff!
Badass
Now if only we can have different RSS feeds for different categories so you can designate different folders. That would be awesome
Useful or not, i guess it would be a real burden on Mininova servers if too many users used it.
Mininova Is Just awesome…. Good addition there… Thanks….

Sweet feature!
I would like to see one (hopefully) small change: make the dates (”pubDate”) in the personal RSS feed correspond to when the bookmark was added, rather than when the torrent was added to mininova.
I like to sort my torrents in utorrent in descending “Added On” order. Since utorrent uses the “pubDate” of the RSS items for this column, this causes newly downloaded items from my personal mininova RSS feed to appear in unpredictable locations in the torrents list.
I think this change also makes sense generally, since the time I bookmark a torrent can be fairly considered to be the “publish date” of that torrent (within the context of my personal RSS feed).
Thanks!
joelpt
This is what I’ve always wanted.
I just started using it and it’s pretty cool. uTorrent has a filter feature so you can work with multiple rss feeds and adjust what happens to your downloads… great stuff.
cool websitep
I tried this feature and it is awesome, though I have not tried it with multiple torrent files. I realized if I have the bookmark and delete the actual file from my computer the download starts again.
This is a dumb question, does one have to remain disciplined and keep the bookmarks clean or any other way of doing it? Like bookmark gets cleared automatically after the download it completed
dang, now i have to find out what a torrent IS, and how to USE it, whatever it is … can i like, steal things with this? instead of going to that multistorey building on petchaburi street and just paying a couple of bucks for it? hey, maybe this is where those guys get this stuff.
anyway, hope my isp doesnt close my spigot and if i go to jail, hope they at least have dial-up there
thanks a lot, i hope
I tired this out and the first torrent was added correctly.
After that I tried adding 2 other torrents and they didn’t show up in my list. I waited for the automatic update, and also tried a manual one too. (Using uTorrent. followed guide above).
Did I do something wrong?
PS. Thanks for this feature!! Assuming I can get it working properly, I would use this all the time.
Probably this won’t be read, but I’m in a hurry so I’ll just write it here… as an idea for torrent comments:
You could make comments… colorful, sounds weird, but what I mean, is that it’s way easier to filter visually that way for people that don’t read like at light-speed. I don’t know… you could make them red, green and yellow, since it’s the colors we all know (I know thanks already exist for green stuff -and I’m really thankful for that- but sometimes people say favorable comments aside thanks, which maybe they shouldn’t but that’s not the point).
Just a slight suggestion and yes, I’m writting more and more so that this is more likely to be seen, and put a new paragraph so that it looks ordered and such.
=) (I guess we all appreciate a smile)
Update: Ok… After about 1.5 hours, 1 of the 2 torrents I added for the second round showed up in my list. Not really sure what’s up with that. uTorrent checks the RSS feed every 15 minutes, but how often does mininova update the RSS feed? I added the second 2 files at the same time and only 1 showed up finally?
you guys always do such great work. i sometimes wish i had created a site like this or could be a part of the team…
really awesome
Amazing!
My uTorrent didn’t download the bookmarks I added until I restarted it. Using uTorrent 1.7.7 I added another and watched the releases page when I did a forced update. It eventually said timed out. Any ideas?

I’ve had no problems so far with the new feature. Everyone is not that PC savvy, so I personally feel that this is a great simple way to get your downloads going when not at home.
How many times have you been away from home, checked Mininova and seen; for example; a torrent of your favourite TV episode and have to wait until you reach home to start the download? Foolproof to use for all those folks who don’t want to stress themselves setting up remote connections.
Fantastic feature Mininova team!!!
Anyone got this rolling on Vuze/Azureus?
I canno´t seem to get any data from rss feed with utorrent or firefox 3…
@joelpt amen, fix the dates. Using the feed for other things as well and combining it with a few other RSS feeds sorting on date, the pubDate really screws up the listing.
IT SEEMS VERY GOOD I WILL LEARN HOW AND TRY IT OK THANKS FOR NEW THINGS. I LOVE MININOVA HURRAY.
Oh sexy additions. They are just awesome. we can even share our torrents with friends. Oh its Torrent Social Network
really great.
Awesome!
its the greatest
GREAT!!!
Use it to select torrents at notebook (small HD!) and download the files at desktop (big HD).
Just would like to be able to set/unset the auto-download at bookmark page. But as it is, it’s GREAT!
rar
Geat idea! Now I can start a download from my workplace
This is a fantastic feature.
Another great feature!
Would it be possible to have some tag added to the name of the torrents in the bookmark list, to be able to distinguish the torrents from everything else? I use the feed feature in uTorrent for TV series, and would like to avoid downloading _everything_ on those feeds, which it seems I would have to do to make this work right now.
Or is there another way of doing this that I haven’t thought of?
This is a great feature. Thanks!
Is it possible to add a button to the search summary page to bookmark a torrent? This is to save the step of opening up the details page of the torrent? What I am thinking of is a button similar to the download button.
This is great !
xp software
It would be cool if there a way to know if a download in “My Bookmarks” was completed
http://searchtorrent.synthasite.com/
a very useful bit torrents search engine
this is just crazy! thank you all!
Wow, followed the instructions, and it was less than five seconds after adding the feed and favourite to utorrent and a pop-up tooltip came up with “downloading torrent from RSS feed” … amazing!
This is fantastic, thank you very much!
a la bien
awesome features, i love the remote dl stuff
very good
dobra e
Great feature.
Thanks Mininova!
dca
good
Great info - keep up the great work.
Wow… I really love this feature.. It really is one of the coolest I have seen with torrents.
This could go bit more further. For example if I can see the status of Torrents being queued from my home computer, that I have scheduled from Mininova, then I have more control over my priorities for downloading.
This is a wonderful work by Mininova team and I wish all the best.
I totally agree with xintox, having a little Ajax button on every row in the search results that lets you add torrents to bookmarks without reloading the page would be amazing.
My suggestion: Add, next to the green get arrow in the search results, a little icon that’s a green B+ (add to bookmarks) that when clicked and the Ajax reply received changes to a red B- (remove from bookmarks).
please download torrent software
The personal bookmark is a brilliant idea. I like that.
But remote download with uTorrent is much simpler than explained here. Just add your personal feed into the RSS feed list on the linker side of uTorrent, remember to check “Automatically download…” and all done. Any new torrent will be started.
Thanks
This sounds like a fun feature. I’ve several times been remote and have found a torrent I need and my only way of adding it is sending it to my Windows machine (which isn’t 100% configured for efficient torrenting) by the uTorrent WebUI (which also has a risk of people seeing the IP of my router.) I like this because then it’ll work on my OSX machine.
Crackdown deal on internet piracy
Crackdown deal on internet piracyInternet service providers (ISPs) and the music industry have reached an agreement to clamp down on illegal downloads.
It is thought that around 6.5 million Britons have downloaded music and films illegally over the past year and estimates suggest that the practice will cost the recording industry up to £1 billion over the next five years.
The fightback against online piracy will begin with letters to thousands of the most prolific downloaders to inform them that their activity has been detected and is being monitored.
The Government’s departments for business and culture hailed the “world-first solution” agreed by the industry to address unlawful file-sharing.
Britain’s six largest ISPs - BT, Virgin Media, Orange, Tiscali, BSkyB and Carphone Warehouse - signed a memorandum of understanding with the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), the body which represents record companies in the UK.
ISPs have agreed to commit themselves to developing legal file-sharing services and to ensure their customers know that it is illegal to share copyright-protected music.
It is thought likely that many parents will learn for the first time from the letters that their children are using their bedroom PCs and laptops for illegal piracy.
Business Secretary John Hutton said: “This is an intelligent approach to tackling unlawful file-sharing by industry and ISPs. It tells consumers what they can do, rather than just what they can’t.”
ISPs and film and music companies are expected to develop a new code of practice together on how they will deal with infringements, and the Government will then look at their proposals and consider how they can be backed up by new laws.
Feargal Sharkey, the former Undertones singer who is now chief executive of British Music Rights, the body that represents musicians, said the industry wanted to co-operate with downloaders to address the problem of piracy.
Love the feature but i have a question. I use a number of different feeds in the Utorrent RSS downloader to broadcatch TV shows. I have filters to DL the shows I want. When I add the Mininova personal feed filter with the “*” filter Utorrent downloads everything on all the TV feeds, regardless of if its in a favorites filter or not.
any way to fix this?
nice wala ^_^..

Awesome Guys Keep It Up, Its Just What I Need

nice wala
there is another good BT client called Miro which is mainly used for videos, but is *great* for subscribing to RSS torrent feeds like these
global night day girl land trust green are stay head
Nice stuff,helpful to me……..
I love it.
Another feature that would be useful is a bookmark feature for my “favorite users/uploaders”
Really useful, my wife loves old movies and now she can just bookmark the ones she likes (using my name) anytime and they’ll start downloading.
Like the suggestion about adding a fav uploader/user feature.
