Hi all!
Good news: Canada’s public broadcaster CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) joined Mininova’s recently launched Content Distribution service in order to distribute the new TV Show Canada’s Next Great Prime Minister.
The show, which premiered last Sunday, will be published annualy on Mininova one day after the TV airtime. The copies are of high quality (720×486 XViD) and come without any DRM restrictions. The choice for BitTorrent as distribution protocol is obvious: the distribution costs are practically zero.
Interested in the show? Check out CBC’s user page or subscribe to their RSS feed. Make sure to download an episode and leave your comments.

We’re very much looking forward to other broadcasters following CBC’s example. Stay tuned for updates!
as long as they show decent programs, it’ll be good, but if its just the usual ‘free TV’ drivel, it wont be used a lot, but its a great idea, maybe others will take it on board, as its already been noted, set up costs are neglible, and thats what TV companies can understand

HORRAY MININOVA,HOPE IT WILL BE GOOD THE CANADIANS DO VERY GOOD PROGRAMS THANKS MININOVA FOR ALL YOU DO AND HAVE BEEN DOING.REGARDS.
I think Canadians can be proud to have a national network that has the fortitude and foresight to be among the first to use the all-too-often maligned BitTorrent file-sharing network. Bravo CBC.
CBC FTW. While I generally don’t enjoy a lot of their programming, they have made some great shows in the past and they are a powerhouse up here in Canada. I’m glad businesses are finally starting to understand the benefits of downloading agents like Bittorrent, and hopefully we’ll see more (and possibly better) shows coming, provided their experiment doesn’t flop.
wow, this is a good start for broadcast tv! … but, even as a canadian, I wouldn’t watch that show if my eyes were taped open.
news flash: CBC broadcasts FOR FREE over airwaves in canada. so do the big networks in the states. if they put more shows up for grabs on the internet, now THAT would be forward-thinking.
Free tv means advertising slots on the screen. Hopefully they wont go as far as animating them. I think most of us can live with a brand logo in the corner of our screen for ‘good’ free tv.
Niice , i never seen any of thier programs cos im in the UK but still why not its worth tryin, no harm done, well done mininova !!!
Can’t Be Cool (cbc) finaly did something right and followed their own path. way to go CBC.
this is a great start. i doubt ill be watching this specific program but i hope they can eventually expand this to all their other programming asap, especially all the great documentaries that they produce. for now i can still get most of them off usenet but releasing them on sites like mininova would substantially increase their viewership and help educate not only canadians like myself but people all over the world. glad to see the CBC embracing the future. i can only hope that the BBC will do the same.
i hope for you a good luck for this begining
This is great news for bittorent, specially the fact that cbc is the property of the Canadian federal government.
This is a GREAT start, since I crossed over to Satellite, I no longer receive Canadian Channels due to the Supreme court ruling against Canadian Channels as FTA. So this is good news for me, as I am now able to view at least one show from the Canadian network (I receive channels from every country except Canada).

April Fools???????????
Good Job CBC and Mininova. Even if this flops, there is nothing to lose. I hope other stations follow CBC. I don’t really enjoy CBC’s programming, but I’ve watched that prime minister show before, and it’s not bad.
this is the future, mininova (and to a lesser degree CBC) are leading the way. Bravo to both.
Finally!
Think about how much hosting would cost, for a popular weekly tv show vs the costs being shared by each customer.
There is likely one person being the driving force behind this effort by the CBC. Her name is Wendy Mesley. She has been with the CBC for 25 years, but has always pushed for a more progressive and modern CBC. Kudos to her. Now, let’s get programming on here from the CBC that would be more relevant to torrent users around the globe.
All good. But would be great if CBC broadcasted NHL games of the leafs and other canadian teams especially on Saturday Hockey night in canada. We people abroad would like to watch it and feel canadian again!
Faisal
Well, if you really think about it, this is the way it should go, We are all on a computer of some sort, and we all know about torrents, so what if the programming isn’t what all of North America wants to watch, but its a start.

Oh yeah, and I am Canadian living in the US, it would be nice to have the option to download Canadian content if I would like. As I am sure all of you would agree for your on viewing areas, to download and watch at your convenience!
Amazing, and my ISP just announced caps on ALL tiers with a very low top cap of 50Gig and a very high $1.50 per 1 gig over, no limit outside of the number of hours in a month. My broadband operator doesn’t see free internet TV as free anymore. I guess it cuts into their franchise.
Nice. Now, if only we can get shows that people will actually give a shit about…hmmm
That was some interesting peice of information. I am working on an article about the varying trends across decades in the entertainment industry and I believe that your page could support my work. So, I would want to refer to your page. I hope that is okay with you. Appreciate your help.

i totally agree with Sharks,!
I m also a born & raised Cdn who currently lives in the states!
i miss the canadian shows!….let hope they not only put up current shows but some of the older ones like beachcombers!!!!! lol
great job Mininova & CBC!
Haha, too bad CBC doesn’t really have any good shows. Maybe this hour has 22 minutes and David Suzuki but besides that, it’s all whacked out attempts at shows. Little Mosque on the Prarie. Haha.
CBC radio is where it’s at though. Get all my news from it.
Forward thinking, you bet. But realize the mechanism of P2P involves numerous seeding computers until the threshold of quick download from peers becomes available. The bandwidth capacity must be viable for most of the vaguely interested. On a more important note, and I don’t really know who reads or cares about this, I would like to request that the National Film Board of Canada PLEASE release better quality versions of their historic EXPO 67 films through this means. The best available versions at the present time are youtube FLV’s which is hard to watch. The camerawork, music and editing are fantastic! If MPEG-2 or large scale AVIs were available, that would be great!

It’s about time. Man the big networks sure are slow to catch on.
gosto e usa bastante este site
CBC television isn’t that great, but you gotta love radios 1, 3 and 2. …This is Q.
JPOD IS GREAT!!!!
Great for the CBC for being the first network to offer a show in this form. I haven’t watched this show before but hopefully it will open the door for more CBC programming to be offered to the masses. I think everyone the world would benefit from watching George Stroumboulopoulos on The Hour, as well as our slightly left-wing news magazine programs.
The CBC, Refreshingly Unamerican.
Im impressed that the CBC has decided to go this route. Certainly a point that will be made note of in some not too distant special on the evolution of television programming - featured on CBC - that no one will catch when it actually airs.
I wish CBC was more like the BBC. Quality Variety Cutting Edge = Viewers. I thought Fuchs would have a clue by now. Give the new viewers what they will get elsewhere otherwise.
This will be a great idea as long as some people don’t use it for there passworded spyware filled adds
As a Canadian living in the US, I miss my Canuck shows. I recommend these CBC series;
Intelligence (crime drama)
The Border (action/crime drama)
The Nature of Things (science, natural history)
The Hour (with George Strombopolous (daily current affairs)
The Trojan Horse (movie)
H2O (movie, not the Halloween movie)
Davinci’s Inquest (crime drama)
Davinci’s City Hall (crime drama)
Cold Squad (crime drama)
Little Mosque on the Prarie (comedy)
Corner Gas (comedy - ok, this is a CTV series…)
The Passionate Eye (documentaries)
Marketplace (consumer affairs, current affairs)
The Lens (docs..)
its good to have another show that will be watched out for..
How tv.com has the tudors which is made by the cbc/bbc can be watched online before it airs by people in the states and only the states ill never know. Why not just post the shows with adds via BT?
april fools
I think that this is where television is going in the future. I hardly watch any LIVE TV content anymore. I work second shift and record everything I miss with a DVR and sometimes a second show aired at the same time, on my computer hard drive. All the networks could do the same and just leave the commercials in the shows. I would cancel my cable TV subscription if the shows I wanted to watch were available for free legal downloading the day after they originally aired. I would still be paying the cable company for my broadband, the networks would actually be able to track how many people are actually watching each show, and the advertisers who basically pay to have the shows made, will still have their ads seen by a global audience. Most people change channels or go to the bathroom during commercials and those who record shows just skip them altogether, so including the ads with the shows would really not change a thing for them or us.
While I think its a positive step to have networks like the CBC recognize that content should be delivered over bit torrent services, any real forward thinking in regard to programming will continue to be stifled by the CRTC.
I am Canadian and have always believed that the mandate of this backward thinking organization is out of touch with what viewers want in this Country. The CRTC continues to enforce the CAN CON rule which as one famous Canadian singer puts it “promotes mediocrity“. That being said, I think that the talent pool in Canada in terms of broadcasting, music, art etc. is second to one in the world. However, modern governments have to realize that they can’t control the flow of content anymore and that the individual can and will swim in a global “content pool”.
Sorry about the rant but I read an article yesterday that the CRTC had said no to the establishment of a Canada wide HD network by a third party company. In summary I guess my point is that the CRTC exercises too much control over what we are allowed to watch and listen to in Canada and broadcasters like the CBC that choose to deliver content over service such as this should be applauded for potentially being the precursor of change.
I want FOX from america to be free legally. Oh well, its still great that cbc’s joining.
This is great, let’s kill the stereotype of BitTorrent being ‘illegal’.
wow, this is awesome, i’ve always thought that CBC is the one who shuts down demonoid. lol i guess i was wrong
CBC is amazing. I love their reports. Better than most channels.
Holy s***!!! You mean our government has legally sanctioned a torrent?? Why not? They (CBC.ca) already stream the original six NHL teams when they play against each other…
And to think they charge us a “recording levy” on DVDR and CDR’s because they know we just download and rip music and movies. Why pay when you can DL and rip Britney’s latest tunes or have your own glorious copy of Cloverfield???
I can now see the CRTC slugging it out with the MPAA and RIAA soon… anyone remember when a certain Toronto, Ontario FM Radio station used to air Howard Stern in the morning? xD
Congratz to CBC!! Maybe I’ll watch more than hockey and news from now on!

Cool. This is good for Canada also. I’m not Canadian, but I’ll be checking it out to see if it’s any good. It’s only a matter of time before the BitTorrent groups begin to negotiate deals with the TV companies (and even other production companies) as it is another means of promotion.
Then why isn’t CBC distributing JPod on Mininova? For some reason episode 11 and 13 weren’t aired, and cbc.ca’s web media player is atrocious.
Ep 13 of jPod was aired, and Ep 11 has been torrented (as SavejPod.ca) when it was pre-empted by World’s Figure Skating.
please cbc
release jpod on torrent
Big whoop-de-doo! One show. One lousy show. Want this to mean something, CBC? Post Corner Gas and Little Mosque on the Prairie and other good shows. Go back into your vaults and pull out Puppets Who Kill and others and post those. THEN, this would be news.
hoi
Anyone else find that refreshing mininova.org occasionally it redirects your browser to antispywareexpert.com ? which appears to be some phishing/malware/spyware type site judging from google searching it, what the fuck is going on? I’ve added “127.0.0.1 antispywareexpert.com” to my hosts file so if I get redirected there in future I don’t actually visit the webpage.
Wow,this is history goin down and im glad mininova and its staff are breaking the mold.Hats off.
that’s great !!!
hurray…CBC come up an idea putting some film on mininova we’re looking forward for new and sxciting shows…
hi this is deepwaters iam asking u lot on here to buy the original software and albums and films it is hurting the jobs market,if the fileshares keep on downloading i will shut the sites down for ever u been warned, piracy hurts consumers,so pay for it yours deepwaters
hi guys heres the first leaked copy of hellboy 2,goto this site freeus.co.uk goto the java chat join the chatroom ask for me deepwaters and i give u the full film of my servers, fast downloads njoy yours tony morris
So far they’re just uploading typical CBC crap; none of the good stuff.
Yay, CBC…but why cancel a great show like jPod which would be ideal for this, and then do something wonderful and give us a craptacular show instead?
One step forward, 2 steps back. CBC…maybe one day….you’ll get it right.
i think this has huge potential to be awsome. CBC is Canada’s olympic network, so if they did this with that it means you wouldn’t have to stay up all night to catch something/wait for the rebroadcast, but watch it exactly when you want to.
big up yourself CBC….

Jpod is an awesome show… the CBC cancelled it, aired it on Friday Nights when the demographic for the show is most likely not at home. Pretty much everybody and their sister watched it online…. so why, WHY? would the CBC not offer jPod in this format?
All fine and dandy that the CBC is doing this, but how many people are flocking to watch Canada’s Next Great Prime Minister online? Is Auntie Martha rushing to her computer to watch Heartland? *shakes head*
