We’re very excited to announce the immediate availability of a new service on Mininova: Content Distribution (CD). In the past months, we developed a distribution service which we think will rock the world 
The reason we developed this service is that we’re used getting quite some emails from (mainly indie) content producers. Many of those are interested in publishing their content on Mininova, but that’s not an easy job. Most content producers have no technical knowledge of P2P and BitTorrent at all. We’re changing this with the introduction of CD.
Using Mininova CD, producers can upload their content once to Mininova with literally a single click. We convert their uploads to dot-torrent files and seed the content from our seed servers. This content will be shown as “Featured torrents” on the front-page. The best part: the service is 100% free 
To give you a better idea of the process, here are some screenshots showing the service:
Quite some content producers already applied for CD, among others Red Band, Wil Deynes and Cruxy. BitTorrent Inc. also joined the party, they will distribute free games (and later movies) on Mininova.
Content producers reading this are invited to apply for an account at http://www.mininova.org/distribution.
But CD is not the only thing we worked on the past months. We’re also introducing some new features and enhancements on the website:
- For uploaders, it’s now possible to edit their torrents up to 24 hours after the upload time.
- We added a “thanks” button to the comment page, along of a country flag. Please use this button instead of posting a “thank you” comment.
- Personalized front-page. Under My settings, there’s now the option to shuffle (and disable) the categories at the front-page.
- Also several layout changes in order to make the site more usable.
And last but not least: we gave our logo some nice Christmas attributes. Merry Christmas everyone and a happy new year!

Hi,
this is a nice idea, but how do you make sure, that not copyrighted material will be uploaded? Not that it would hurt me, but it could potentially hurt you, if there’s such material stored and seeded from YOUR servers. I mean having copyrighted materials hosted on mininova servers would give the law enforement agencies a real reason, in contrary of just hosting the .torrent files.

We have a strict selection procedure. In case a producer still uploads unauthorized material, the copyright holder in question can complain and we’ll ban the uploader.

My 4 year old eMachine T2484 can’t handle the new format especially the 720p resolution. I tried using VLC player and the screen went black. Any help on this matter will be highly appreciated
This is great, I’ve been hoping to limit categories on the front page for a while. However, I just tried dragging some categories to “don’t show” and they’re still showing up on the front page. Then I went back to settings and they were in the default state. Anyways, happy Festivus!

When changing the “Personalized front-page” settings, make sure you save your settings (you have to enter your current password first). Also, make sure you have javascript enabled while you change the settings. Javascript is enabled by default in most browsers.

Be careful you don’t go the way of suprnova… I feel it is getting closer every day.
Remember, your position rose from the ashes of a self-destroyed suprnova, if you attempt to become too much of a corporate entity then shortly you will crash and burn.
CD is aweasome.
CD is a great idea, however, it’d be even greater if we could browse through categories within CD. Right now when you go into http://www.mininova.org/cat/featured it’s all in one place, so it’s not always clear what is what.
And one other thing: When people upload software, they should be sure to mark it as demo/shareware/freeware. Because right now, it’s impossible to tell a demo apart from a free game.
If these two things where changed, I know I sure would use this service a lot

Yay guys, lookin’ sweet to the touch but I have a problem with the comments section, every time I try and comment it logs me out and won’t hold the login until I refresh the front page and bang, I’m still logged in :S
And 1 on the above posters thoughts about going the way of Suprnova, with greatness comes complacency and we all have to be on our toes here. Look at the big names in the last couple of years, Loki, Oink, even some of the oldies went this month, I been faithful to the Mini for a long time and would be bad if it followed.

good idea Niek, i was thinking about something similar too because i receive loads of mails from indie producers asking us to make a post about their new album / movie / anything.
seriously you have to check each CD upload to see if its copyrighted or not… as you will see at http://thepiratebay.org/legal the thing that is stoping you being sued/taken down is you don’t store material.
Companies could purposely upload bad data (MediaDefender???) and thats you gone like poor old demonoid. If this is free, unrestricted material it is good as it shows you are trying to make torring more legal, but it could be a trap.

CD is only for legal material right? not for copyright infringment, cos u will be hosting it from your servers.

By the way, if you REALLY have more than 1 million UNIQUE visitors each month, I would like to see a descriptive real-time script tracking such hits monthly. You do not get such unique hits monthly, and you have never proven such an outrageous claim. You only keep this website up to fuel your own English ego, that is why you moderate your torrents for no given reason at all (though you will contest this surely, and fail in doing so, as you have every time in the past)
In conclusion, MiniNova is an arrogant Joke and the whole world would be far better off if UK kept its arrogance to itself.

you should create a software for featured content upload with pause and resume option like we can do with the google video uploader for video upload ^^
Would be nice if mininova would add somemore settings in our preferences like our web address and maybe a info box that would write some basic info about our uploads we do.

Sounds gr8 mininova, you are the best. I only hope we don’t see more subliminal commercials in our “free” media content, ya know what I mean? I think we can control it though, whatever… You all have a gr8 2008!
I am glad that mininova is trying to weed out all those annoying “thank you” posts.I also like how the number of comments on each torrent is displayed next to its name but I feel you have made it more cluttered and confusing by including how many people have said thanks.
We want to give big thanks and kudos to Mininova for setting up this featured content system and accepting us as a content provider. Within 10 days or so we have distributed about 14.000 albums and 5.000 singles directly through Mininova, and in addition to that a good number must have been distributed through all the secondary sites mirroring Mininova’s torrents. These are fantastic figures for an artistically ambitious netlabel that operates from pure love of music with no commercial strings or plans attached. This success gives us faith that there indeed are ways to build a working global content production and distribution infrastructure that bypasses all commercial actors and their influence - so that art can be art again and not just a ‘product’ or commodity for the big media business.
Our happy artists send their thanks and best New Year wishes to Erik and other Mininova personnel. May the Force be with you also in the future!

I really like the idea of the Content Distribution via Mininova, one thing which could be a great addition would be to be able to insert a URL instead of having to upload the file to Mininova CD via the webinterface. That way, one would not have to upload several hundreds of megabytes yet another time if Mininova CD is used as an additional way to distribute one’s software/packages.

There is way too much crap featured. It started promising but now it is just as bad as browsing the pirate bay for recent uploads. Thump down.
Awesome idea, hopefully this will make it hard for the RIAA to get sites shut down with so many legitimate artists involved in uploading.
I’d like to see a hover over tool tip in the future so you dont need to open the torrent files description.
Kind of like what blockbuster video does.
