Some small improvements we made the last couple of days.
Frontpage (Erik + Niek):
The frontpage now lists the 10 most downloaded torrents for each category for the last 24 hours. We think this is more usefull than the 10 latest torrents.
(for all people who still don’t get it, the today page is the same as the old frontpage and can even be set as your default frontpage in your settings).
Search RSS feed (Erik):
The page with search results now contains a link to the RSS feed for that search. This is a easy way to monitor if there are new search results.
Search caching (Erik):
Turned on search caching, I forgot to turn it on with the previous update. Search should be a little faster again now.
RSS feeds (Erik):
The category and subcategory pages now contain a RSS feed column with a link to their RSS feeds.
Search Cloud (Jos):
Jos has made the search cloud look much better and came up with a better formula to calculate the word size and color.
Frontpage Improvements (Niek):
Niek made some improvements to the frontpage such as the “Show all of today →” link for each category.
Better caching (Erik):
I have improved the frontpage and search cloud caching which should lower the sql server load and improve the load time of these pages.
Labs (Erik):
As requested I have created an RSS feed for the mininova labs. Note that we don’t often add new things, but I’ll try to increase this.
Uploads Graph (Erik):
There is now a graph containing the number of torrents uploaded each day. It is added to to the graph section of our stats.
Hope you all like this updates. I have reactivated my World Of Warcraft account and made a new character (Firik, NE druid on Al’ Akir) so don’t expect any more updates from me any time soon 
I have a simple request. Would it be possible to put the direct URL to the .torrent file in an >enclosure< tag in the RSS feeds? This would allow Mininova RSS feeds to work with any Podcasting clients that support bittorrent.
Are there problems with the site?
it seemed to be working fine a while ago, but now there are no seeders or person’s uploading.
I’m running Bitlord 1.1

i don’t really like “top 10 torrents”. would much rather “10 latest torrents” be displayed, that way peoples torrents can be on the preliminary front for a little bit. as you can see in the tv section, we now have a bunch of torrents all for the same file showing there (lost). not really that great..

seeders being on files doesn’t have to do with this site, but the tracker that the torrent is on. this site just indexes torrent files.
check the torrents stats to see which tracker it’s using and then try and get to the tracker to see if anything’s up

@hmm: it was debated before and whole idea is to save bandwith to mininova, and how to do it. Interesting thing is that people, on the day the new episode of lost is out and its on the today page, they stil search it thousends of times because they cant be bothered to scroll down throu the TVshows list. This way even the mosty lazy ones dont have to search, which means alot of GB saved.

Do you mean a page with only new (from today) TV show torrents, for example? Because I don’t see it.
Yeah - what Steve says. There is a part solution at http://minirss.org, but that is no good for the excellent new RSS search feeds.
It would be very helpful for people with BT client RSS feeds too.

the 10 most downloaded per day is alot better than most recent 10. but for someone like me who only visits mininova once/twice a day i’m always gonna check the today page and see all uploads just so i dont miss anything

Definitely makes more sense to show the top 10 instead of the latest 10. Now all I need is a single page per category (in the full today listing) and I’m happy. Because I’m only interested in a single category and showing the rest of them is also wasting bandwidth…

Perhaps another improvement might be to have the ’show all’ link at the bottom of each category just link to a list of all that day’s torrents in that category, rather than link to the old front page. That, too, would save on bandwidth. EG - if I want to see all of the TV torrents posted today, I click and get that list, rather than a much larger list of all torrents in every category.
