Hey everybody, today is the first birthday of mininova!
About a year ago, I started working on a website that would replace SuprNova, a very popular BitTorrent site that cancelled its services in December 2004.
Shortly after I started, my friends Erik, Jos, Matthijs en Rob joined the mininova staff.
Who could ever have thought that 1 year later, this website would be the number 1 place for millions of people worldwide to get torrents off?
What was the reason for mininovas huge growth?
- Was it the simple layout?
- The perfect timing after SuprNovas shutdown?
- The many revolutionary and advanced features?
- The forum with its great community?
The only thing I know for sure is that we’ll stay here with you, the BitTorrent users 
Of couse I’d like to say thanks to everybody who helped us (the staff) accomplish what we’ve got now:
- You, the users! For getting fresh torrents from mininova every day!
- All our moderators, at the forum and the site. Their work is probably invisible for you, but they accomplish huge things. Without them, mininova would be a mess…
- Anakata from ThePirateBay, for hosting the website the first week (for free!)
- Gary from isoHunt, for hosting our servers a month in exchange for recommending his site
- FD for his help setting up the forum and the servers at Leaseweb
- The guys from Leaseweb for hosting our servers for almost a year now
- And everybody else who I forgot
I’d like to emphasise that we’ve just started, and we’ve got a long way to go!
I’m sure many interesting and important things will happen this year.
As usual, we’d like to know what you, as a BitTorrent user, would like to see changed on mininova.

Personally, I was thinking that a new design for mininova would be a good idea (the current layout is getting quite old).

Congrats! You have done a great job and most of all provided a much needed service to millions! Although I’m not a registered member, I check your site daily and prefer its simple ( and attractive (Simplicity is beauty)interface to the many other torrent and P2P sites out there. If you do change the design of your lay out, I suggest you get a lot of feed back from your users during the design and immplemention process. I like to live by the old adage ” If it aint broke…”
Also another suggestion, if there is a way of increasion the bandwith on very popular files that would be great. I’m not an expert(obviously)in that area so if I’m talking out my @#$ please disregard.

of all the bt sites, I use mininova the most. with the exception of files with spyware, mininova has enabled a full web experience for lots of users. congrats, and best wishes for 2006.

Congratulations on the anniversary — this is probably my most-used torrent site.
Since you’re asking for suggestions, one thing that occurs to me is the identity of the tracker. I’d love to see that on the “General” tab rather than the “Detailed” tab, which I’m always clicking into just to get that one piece of highly pertinent information.

It seems way more than 1 year since I found this website.
I remember Suprnova closing, and I somehow came across Mininova, you guys must’ve been indexing like 4 torrents!
Nevertheless, I added the site to my favorites in hope of checking back a few months later to see how it was developing, and now I use this site more than my toilet.
Love the site, please don’t change the layout, I love it this way. Simple, pleasing to the eye, yet catchy. I just want to say again what a great job you guys do.

Great site and keep up the good work. People are generally very helpful as well when it comes to tech things after downloading especially those guys in TUS-KVCD Group Forum. Also Eztv and other groups who regularly submit the latest programmes - excellent. Especially now as my son is abroad he can still see little britain and top gear etc.
Great to have the latest programmes of Las Vegas etc direct from the states as the latest series is not being shown here on Sky at present.

Happy b’day Mininova! I did not hear about this site long after suprnova was gone, and I was piss off with the torrentspy for put torrents in multie pages one day someone posted a torrent with the url in the name of this site, and Its my nr1 spot for torrents from that day!!
I love mininova. It’s really one of my all-time favorite websites for form and function. Which is why I have to ask about the redesign. The major reason of why I love mininova is the minimalistic design and layout, where you don’t have fancy graphics distracting you from what you really want. If the new design is minimalistic then I’ll be fine, but please don’t make this torrentspy or the like.

Been using this site for nine (9) months or so, and the only contention I have, what severely dis-courages me at times, is the fact that I need to comb through large lists of torrents, to open the “Detailed Information” page for each, only to determine if each torrent is a multi-part RAR torrent or not (something that can’t be previewed during DL to verify content, and often requires a password for a nested RAR file, and thanks to XviD, RARing/ZIPing an avi does not significantly enhance it’s suitablility for DL (download)). Without this combing through the search pages, I would DL a torrent’s contents that I can’t open.
So, my request(s)/suggestion(s) are:
1.To list “File-Count” before “Total-Torrent-Size” in the ‘home’ & ’search’ pages (just like the ‘torrent listing’ pages appear on “TorrentSpy” (very helpful in weeding-out multi-part RARs)).
2.To list the “fileType” of the largest file of the torrent, just after the listing of the “torrentName” in the ‘home’ & ’search’ pages (should be helpful in weeding-out RARs that should be AVIs).
3.(IF and ONLY IF it won’t impact too heavily on bandwidth use, or make mininova look too much like TorrentSpy) To merge the “General Information” & “Detailed Information” & “Comments” sections so that ‘Torrent-Health’ can be checked at the same time as checking for a ‘QualitySampler (avi/mpg)’ and ‘RAR password(s)’ and ‘Quality Comments’ from users. (IF and ONLY IF there is sufficient demand for such a merging of fields, that could make torrent pages collosal in size)
4.To NOT include Health graphics that might be similar to what TorrentSpy and Torrentz are using to express health status of a torrent. The ONLY health indicator is the ’seeds-count’, ’cause leechers leech (downwidth hogs (~50:1) usually outnumber upwidth traders (~1:1)), and graphics mis-leed.
5.(I stand by my earlier recommendation) That it would be nice to see some kind of illustration (animated or otherwise (bulk bandwidth considered)) of some kind of astronomical event, similar in appearence to a change of state of a star or star-system, when (if ever) revamping the logo of the “mininova” website (maybe the sheding of dust-clouds from a star could be used to represent the o of nova of mininova).

Great Site… Yeh Only thing that needs to be improved is when you click on a torrent.. and you want to see what files are located in there… it gets a bit annyoing having to always click “Detailed Info”
