Some nice artwork

At the Mininova Labs there is a page called the Cooperative Painting Project (warning: may crash IE).
This is a heavy html/javascript (Could even be called AJAX but doesn’t use the X of XML) page on which you can paint. You can not just paint things for yourself but veryone can see your paining skills (in realtime) and can modify the painting.
Every day at 12:00 GMT+1 the painting is stored and a new fresh painting is started. All the old paintings can be seen at the History page.

Here is a list of some of my favorite paintings.

When thinking about making a picture for MiniNova, I ofcourse started wondering about Novae and Super-Novae, and how they might look (in visible and in-visible EM light). In searching for Nova picture, I came across this excellent article I remembered from seeing on the TV news one-day, NOT of a Nova as it was too fast (apparent dust/shock-wave diameter increase of 3 light-years in 8 months) & too cold (~2,300 Kelvins, less than half G-type star surface temperature), but of a light echo effect (previously un-observed and un-imagined) where the light from a Red-Giant’s Nova-event (OR outer-layer-sheding event) was being reflected against the parabolic lines of the (inter-)stellar dust ejected from it’s (un-seen to us, too brief & too few star watching at the time) actual Nova/outer-layer-sheding event (600,000 times its initial intensity).

The Red-Giant star (diameter ~100 times that of our sun), named V838 Monocerotis

The observations [were to be] detailed in the March 27 issue of the journal ‘Nature’.
As this animation/picture is of a cold, repetitive and small-dust-volume event, which outshone all stars in this galaxy, and appears to Earthlings to be evolving faster than the speed of light, this seems to be the perfect event to be called a MiniNova (as a small-volume is ejected from the same star every few millenia), and a perfect animation/symbol for the MiniNova website/dev-team (even if it is an optical illusion 7 light years across).

Oh, and the above linked animation of a Hubble-observed Light-Echo-Effect progression also looks exactly like what someone’s Torrent-swarm animation/illustration should look like (ie. Colourful animation of (lens-glare) gradient-coloured lines connecting the client (centre) to the swarm of surrounding servers, many of which at different animated distances (illustrating different ping-times OR lag-times OR throughput-latencies). And displaying stars/PCs in the background would be optional background additives (personal preferences might include animation of the gas-storms of Jupiter, OR personally written slide-show, OR a highly intensive BitTorrent-protocol-addon/modification which would allow an elite client (eg.Azureus) to track swarm activity by monitoring data flows between local/remote connections exclusively within the swarm (unconnected to the core) OR trace packet/torrent-piece movements (as an addon to the super-seeding facility, to ensure super-seeding goes to other seeds, in the proportions appropriate to the speeds at which they are seeding each of their respective swarms) (Bram Cohan is right, super-seeding can only slow overall swarm performance (even if it might slightly improve short-duration swarm speeds (esp. when full o’ leechers))).

i went there and somebody had a flag drawn in there. i started to add dots on the flag, in a way that he/she can simply fix it back. And we stayed like that for a while. Then we started cleaning the older drawings and that’s when what’s nice about this thing hit me. We helped each other cleaning and drawing.
Like he/she was writing and i corrected the look of the letters. And it was fun somehow to draw with someone else.

The quality didn’t matter .. it was fun to draw with that stranger :).

  41. 41 ThE MaN

Btw … is it possible to add a shoutbox on the same page. I think that might turn out nice.
