New server

We installed a new (third) server a few days ago. We moved the forum, this blog, the ads-targeting application, CodePost and some other stuff to this new box.

For those of you who’re interested, here are the specs:

Dell PE1850

Dual Xeon 2,8Ghz

2GB DDR Memory

2x 73 GB Harddisk (RAID1)

10Mbit flatfee internet connection

Hopefully this will make loading pages from the main servers even faster :)

Nice :) - Any chance of getting some usage stats for each (monthly banwidth usage for the site & forum would be nice)

Great job with everyting. Keep up the good work. By chance do you have any pictures?

any chance of speeding it up! and i keep getting kick of the tracker

  4. 4 Erik

    We don’t run a tracker.

On the main site (front page) could you please add the servers time to the stats so i can get an idea of when uploaded torrents are about to arrive (for regular series)? other than that keep up the great work, love this site

Torrents that require passwords to operate are cool - its when they require you to go to some dumbass web page to get them that it becomes annoying. Any archive torrents (rar, zip etc) should have the pass included.

Spunkmeyer: It’s already site policy that you have to include the password with any encrypted upload. “Uploading passworded archives without stating the password may result in a ban.” It’s on the upload page.

I’m really sorry for leaving the comment here, as I know it’s the wrong place, but do you think you’ll be adding an “iPod Videos” and “iPod TV Shows” section? It would be really useful :)
Videos/TV Shows formatted for the iPod in their own section :)
    Thanks!

It’s good to know that this BT network is getting bigger and more robust (I love DLing TV shows, Movies, but am waiting very anxiously for Civ4 to come to this site. Otherwise, love this site, come here all the time), and just a thought, why not add a shortcut to the home and search pages to be able to DL the torrent without DLing the torrent’s details page (like TorrentSpy.com have done) (might save on bandwidth and server duty, preventing you from needing to upgrade again, anytime soon atleast)?
P.S. BTW Jordan, I think iPod’s are supposed to be able to play all media types, like the PC is supposed to.

That’s cool sorry not been round for a while back now, and just wondering was this just a nice gesture on admins part or was the server load becoming silly ?

nice work good little spec too:)

    hey, nice work guys :)

thanks for the great website ^_^

niiice server, I want one :P keep it up guys and girls, this is still one of the best torrent sites around (alot of the others have terrible archives, and dont have accurate peer/seed counts).

  14. 14 Jordan

Lennny53- iPods can only play certain video files, and it has to be formatted right. :)

I agree with Lennny53. A direct link to the torrent file from the torrent listing or search results would save a lot of bandwidth and server CPU processing if we didn’t have to load the details page each time. My $.02

    ^^ lol..

[OT] Great work guys, love the site!

I guess adding a direct link to the torrent without a details page means less advertisment revenues . Which is what keeps this great site running.

    Right ?!

  24. 24 Factor X

hey why not have a big zip file with every torrent in it so it make sure the torrents are ok if the site ever gets shut down and the if another site comes online you could add them fast and easy. isnt it worth a try? :)

  25. 25 Erik

We already have backups. And it is a really big zip file, 1.25 GB.

  26. 26 Factor X

well why not let people have a copy of it. isnt it alway better to be safe then sorry? anyway it could be put on a P2P program and shared around so it doesnt hold up the server like a torrent of a zip file of torrents or something but anyway its only an idea

  27. 27 starscream

Sounds like a good idea to me. Wouldnt be much different then downloading a DVD of a game, movie, or something else.
